Kinesiology, Master of Science
The Graduate Program in Kinesiology offers advanced study in human movement with two distinct concentration areas: Exercise Science and Rehabilitation Science.
The Exercise Science concentration emphasizes the physiological and biomechanical aspects of human performance, preparing students for careers in sport performance, research, and the fitness industry, or for continued doctoral study.
The Rehabilitation Science concentration focuses on restoring function and enhancing quality of life for individuals with injuries, chronic conditions, or age-related limitations through therapeutic exercise. This concentration equips students for entry into professional allied health programs, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, and physician assistant studies.
Through a combination of coursework, research opportunities, and practical experiences, the Exercise Science and Rehabilitation Science concentrations develop professionals who can apply scientific principles to optimize human health, performance, and rehabilitation outcomes across diverse populations.
Admission Process
Unless otherwise specified, admission to any of the graduate programs in the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology requires a baccalaureate degree and adequate coursework in the field of interest.
Prospective students must have at least a 2.6 cumulative undergraduate GPA or at least a 3.0 on the last 60 hours.

MS in Kinesiology with Administrator Certification
The Master of Science in Kinesiology also offers an option to pursue Principal Certification. The total number of hours for the MS in Kinesiology with Administrator Certification is 48. 160 clock hours are required for the Internship in School Administration (EDAD 5345 Practicum in School Administration). After 12 hours of EDAD coursework have been completed in the program, students may take the Principal (268) practice TExES Exam. This provides students with an option to be an Athletic Director or Principal.
In order to sit for the state exam, a candidate must be admitted to the Educator Preparation Program, meet academic competency requirements and receive approval to test. Pursuant to the Texas Education Code (TEC), §22.083, candidates must undergo a criminal history background check prior to employment as an educator.
