Instructional Leadership, Master of Education
Texas A&M University-San Antonio offers a Master of Education (M.Ed) in Instructional Leadership beginning with two tracks: English and Environmental Science. The programs emphasize practical applications and competencies critical to instructional leader effectiveness in improving instruction, teacher quality and student achievement. It is the goal of this degree offering at A&M-San Antonio to serve the needs of local school districts by developing highly skilled instructional leaders. The Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation is committed to extending the knowledge base of instructional leadership through a combination of scholarly inquiry, reflective practices and student-centered learning.
PROGRAM DETAILS
•The total number of credit hours required for a master’s degree is 36, including 18-credit hours in Educational Leadership and 18-credit hours in one’s content (English or Environmental Science to begin).
•Includes training for Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) supervisory certification.
•The designed credit hours provide enough credit f or a graduate to teach dual-credit classes in their respective content area.
•Students may extend their degree with 2 additional courses to meet principal certification requirements.
•Coursework is offered in a combination of in-person and convenient online classes.
•The University believes that this affords students the greatest amount of freedom and flexibility while also emphasizing student support resulting in highly-skilled graduates.
The program is designed for students interested in instructional leadership whose career goals include teacher leadership, teaching dual-credit coursework, and, potentially, principalship.
Each applicant to the graduate program in Educational Administration must complete the following:
1.Each applicant must submit their application and required documents by the appropriate semester deadline to GradCAS at gradcas.liaisoncas.org/apply
2.Students seeking admission to the program must meet the basic requirements outlined in the Admissions section of the catalog. Students must have a valid Texas teaching certificate for entrance into the program.Applicants without an appropriate background may be required to complete additional preparatory coursework.at gradcas.liaisoncas.org/appl.

4.Candidates will submit a letter of recommendation from a current or former school leader, peer,
A&M-San Antonio Education Leadership Program alumni, or current student in the Educational Leadership Program. In addition to an interview with the Graduate Advisor, candidates will submit a writing sample to be evaluated by the program faculty.
In order to receive unconditional admission to the program, students must meet University admission requirements. Recommendations from campus and/or district supervisors will be considered for conditional admission. Students in this program must have a valid Texas teaching certificate for entrance into the program. Applicants without an appropriate background may be required to submit additional materials or complete additional preparatory coursework.
