Kinesiology, Master of Science
The Master of Science in Kinesiology at Texas A&M University-San Antonio prepares professionals with the education and experience to pursue a professional career in the field of Health and Kinesiology or to pursue a doctoral degree in a related field. The program provides and supports higher-level knowledge, specialized proficiencies, and the development of independent creativity. The Master’s degree in Kinesiology offers a 1) thesis (pursuing a research degree and possibly a Ph.D. program) and a 2) non-thesis track with a graduate research project (seeking work as a practitioner/educator in the fitness industry and school setting).

Admission Process
Unless otherwise specified, admission to any of the graduate programs in the Department of Counseling, Health, and Kinesiology requires a baccalaureate degree and adequate coursework in the field of interest.
Prospective students must have at least a 2.6 cumulative undergraduate GPA or at least a 3.0 on the last 60 hours.

MS in Kinesiology with Administrator Certification
The Master of Science in Kinesiology also offers an option to pursue Principal Certification. The total number of hours for the MS in Kinesiology with Administrator Certification is 48. 160 clock hours are required for the Internship in School Administration (EDAD 5345 Internship in School Administration). After 12 hours of EDAD coursework have been completed in the program, students may take the Principal (268) practice TExES Exam. This provides students with an option to be an Athletic Director or Principal.
In order to sit for the state exam, a candidate must be admitted to the Educator Preparation Program, meet academic competency requirements and receive approval to test. Pursuant to the Texas Education Code (TEC), §22.083, candidates must undergo a criminal history background check prior to employment as an educator. A person who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a State Board for Educator Certification-approved educator preparation program or planning to take a certification examination may request a preliminary criminal history evaluation letter regarding the person’s potential ineligibility for certification due to a conviction or deferred adjudication for a felony or misdemeanor offense.
